About Our Work

Our Vision

We envision a world where everyone, especially vulnerable populations, have access to fair, dignified, and safe work.

Our Approach

We work with stakeholders that share our values, including the private sector and organizations trusted by workers, to create meaningful HRDD programs. We are laser-focused on addressing root causes, so we don't come back to the same problem repeatedly. This is a complex area of work, so we focus on what works for workers, because better outcomes for the private sector will follow.

Our Principles

We always keep workers and rightsholders front of mind. We prioritize and integrate their input as we develop our guidance and programming.

We listen to survivors and lived experience experts because no one knows the flaws in a system better than the people that were failed by it.

We prioritize working with community-based stakeholders trusted by workers and rightsholders.

Areas of Work

Community-based Human Rights Due Diligence

Community-based Human Rights Due Diligence

Community-based Human Rights Due Diligence

We support community-based organizations and initiatives trusted by workers and evaluate how to link them with larger

Human Rights Due Diligence systems.  We believe this is the most effective approach to provide meaningful prevention, identification and remediation programming in global value chains.

Business and Human Rights Regulations

The Tendai Initiative works with stakeholders who share our values to comply with global business and human  rights regulations, including forced labor import bans, and mandatory human rights due diligence requirements.  Our efforts are designed to produce meaningful and sustainable outcomes for workers and rightsholders.

Expanding Economic Opportunities for Vulnerable Populations

Expanding Economic Opportunities for Vulnerable Populations

People with Disabilities are at higher risk of human trafficking, forced labor, sexual assault, and labor exploitation. We are developing tools and resources for business and human rights professionals to integrate these considerations into their operations.

This area of work is incorporated into each of our workstreams. It is mentioned here because it is an essential component to address the underlying vulnerability and root causes that lead to exploitative conditions in the workplace.
